DESCRIPTION:

When I was first handed this assignment, there was no template to draw from, it was just an idea that was given to me by the dean of Community Bible Institute and Seminary in Brooklyn, NY. He informed me that the president of the school, had wanted me to teach this new course called “Bible Survey Word.”

My task was to develop the course and teach it. The process was a little tedious, because it entailed seeking and searching scripture to find key words that could be taught to youth, as an introduction and survey of the bible.

What started out as a task, become intriguing, interesting, and fun. As I searched the scriptures I discovered a new understanding of the bible. Jesus said it best when He said: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” (John5:39).

“Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book, it is written of me” (Psalms 40:10)

Again, in Hebrews: “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.” (Hebrews 10:7).

What transpired, truly opened up new streams of revelation, and my students grasped onto the bible with a new found love of scripture, their understanding was enlightened, and their spiritual growth expanded exponentially.

As I compiled these lessons from a thought to pen and paper it became apparent that this was not just for the benefit of my students and I but, was a composition that should extend beyond the four walls of my class room to every class room where biblical instruction is presented and even in places where Christ is yet to be named.

The lesson plans are presented in 30 separate lessons, which are formatted in easily understandable language. All age groups can use the material to get an advanced understanding of the Old Testament and how it relates to us today.

In each book of the bible there is a Christ centered theme. In each lesson you will find that Christ centered theme; i.e. “Jesus Christ, our Creator God” as He is portrayed in the book of Genesis. To assist with our understanding of each book there are definitions of key words and terms, and names of certain individuals are also defined as it pertains to the lessons. Each of these can also serve as a focal point for the teacher or could be a catalyst for further study.

It is my hope and prayer that this would be a tremendous addition to your Christian walk and library, and that it would become one of your go to books when it comes to bible study.

Your fellow brother and servant in Christ,

Dr. Gregory Pittman Sr.
